Running a business is hard enough. Running the digital side of your business is definitely time-consuming. although you may not realize it, creating content, staying on top of social media, and keeping up your digital presence will take more time out of your day than you expect, and staying on top of it, is key. So here are some tips that could help you conquer your work!
Firstly make sure to track your time. When starting a task note down the time and give yourself a set time for it to be completed. Do schedule in breaks as you’ll need these but having a general idea of how long a task takes will not only give you a visual of the hours taken out of your day but you’ll also get an idea of how king certain tasks take which will be useful in the future. Various apps can be used to track your time such as Toggl which allows you to record the time taken to finish a project. Have an online notebook. An online notebook will help you keep your ideas more organized. Creative ideas come and go, making it easy to forget them if not saved from where. Making a sort of scrapbook with all the ideas you have, photos you may want to use in projects, and different pieces of research will make it easier when you want to start up your project. We suggest you sort ideas and photos out into categories to make them easier to work on. Do you know how we said to schedule in breaks? We weren’t joking. Timeboxing refers to setting a specific amount of time to working on something and then having a small break. If you’ve ever heard of the Pomodoro technique this will should familiar. Set yourself 25 minutes to work on a task without any other distractions and then take a 5-minute break and repeat. Once this is done 4 times so after 2 hours allow yourself a 15-minute break. Remember to stand up, look away from your screen, and stretch. Having these little breaks will refresh our minds and treat us to a set time where we can be distracted rather than getting carried away halfway through our task. The next point is pretty subjective so see what works best for you. Personally working on multiple tasks on the same day is exciting. You get to refresh your mind with a new topic, it gives you a break from a complicated more difficult task plus you will probably feel more determined to complete the tasks in comparison to only having one task at a time that seems to drag on forever. Although saying all this, some people are different and find working on multiple tasks on the same day to be too overwhelming. This overwhelming feeling will lead to feeling stressed and you’ll either stress out and complete the tasks quickly and not to your best ability or you will procrastinate. If this is you, focus on one task per day and change days throughout the week. That way you will still be working on multiple tasks but you’ll spread them out over a week rather then breaking up the day.
